The Dead or Alive World Combat Championship is a tournament held every year by the Dead or Alive Tournament Executive Committee (a.k.a - DOATEC).

Dead or Alive was the start of the DOA tournament. Throughout the countless battles the fighters faced, only eight made it to semi-finals. The eight fighers include:

  • Kasumi - A runaway ninja who seeks revenge on the person who injured her brother.
  • Ryu Hayabusa - A ninja only seeking to stop Kasumi.
  • Jann Lee - A man who is trying to prove to be the strongest fighter alive.
  • Lei Fang - A woman only trying to defeat Jann Lee to prove her independence.
  • Gen Fu - A old man who was known to have an iron fist, trying to win the tournament to help his granddaughter.
  • Tina - A woman who wants to win to only get noticed by Hollywood.
  • Zack - A man who wants to win for money an popularity.
  • Bayman - An assassin with a secret objective.

The eight fighters once again fought to reach finals. The four who made it to the finals, namely Kasumi, Gen Fu, Jann Lee and Tina, will face DOATEC's greatest creation. Previously Lei Fang had lost to Jann Lee, while Zack lost too many fights to qualify. Ryu couldn't find Kasumi, but he worked hard enough to make it, while Bayman planned to assassinate Fame Douglas.

The final four went on to challenge the final fighter. However, Tina forfeited the competition as she didn't want to progress any further. With that, Bayman was allowed through to the finals. The final opponent then appeared to the fighters. It happened to be Raidou, the man who had stolen the Torn Sky Blast and injured Hayate. The first two to fight him were Jann Lee and Gen Fu, both of whom lost to Raidou. Bayman was next up, as he needed to get past Raidou to get to Fame Douglas. However, he too lost, leaving only Kasumi. She managed to damage Raidou; however, Raidou was too strong for her. Then, Ryu came to help Kasumi and damaged Raidou enough for Kasumi to defeat him. In the end, Kasumi won the tournament; however, she didn't accept the prize money. Therefore, Tina got the money instead.

The second Dead or Alive tournament was entered by far more participants, namely the following:

At the climax of the tournament, it was revealed that a tengu had escaped from its own world, now bent on the destruction of everything. Hayabusa eventually defeated it, winning the second tournament.

A third tournament was held by DOATEC soon after the dispatch of the tengu. However, it was revealed to be no normal martial arts tournament, but rather a killing ground for the genetically-engineered warrior Omega, creating a bloodbath for him to fight in. Fittingly, given that Omega was originally her adoptive father, Ayane was the fighter to defeat him, burning his body and taking his weapon and mask in remembrance.

With all the antagonism aroused by DOATEC, the Mugen Tenshin clan led by Hayate, new leader of the clan now seeks for revenge, after all the dirty work DOATEC has created.

Hayate, with his half-sister Ayane go on to stop DOATEC, and their friend Ryu Hayabusa, with a reluctant Kasumi. Several other revelations are shown, and many relations unknown are uncovered.

The clan succeeds to destroy DOATEC and its headquarters tri-tower, with a suicidal Helena who self destructs the building in toll. Zack fortunately saves her from the burning buildings.
