The Playstation 2 is a video game console created by Sony. It is the successor to the Playstation and the predecessor to the Playstation 3. The Playstation 2 was released in Japan on March 4, 2000, in North America on October 26, 2000, in Europe on November 24, 2000, and in Australia on November 30, 2000. Like the Xbox and the Nintendo Gamecube, the Playstation 2 is part of the sixth generation of console. So far, the PS2 the best-selling console to date, having reached over 140 million units in sales by mid-2008.
