Spectator Mode, also known as Watch Mode, is a gameplay mode that exists in Dead or Alive 2, Dead or Alive 3, and Dead or Alive 4. When in this mode, the player can select two characters - or two tag-teams - who will fight against one another until the player exits the mode. The computer takes control of the characters.
The player can alter the camera into four various fashions via the pause menu:
- Standard Battle Camera: This camera acts exactly the same way as the camera in normal versus fights.
- Fast Moving Camera: A camera that jumps around to either side of the combat - typically behind one of the fighters - from a range of different angles. It also enters slow-momtion occasionally when there are hard strikes and combo moves.
- Rotating: This camera simply rotates around the fighters.
- Player Cameras: These two cameras follow the selected character, always keeping them near the centre of the screen.
The other method of changing the camera is with the controller. The left stick pans, while the right stick turns and zooms. The triggers and bumpers twist the camera.
The main use of this mode is for training: the player can watch the characters to determine what their animations are like when they launch certain attacks, for instance. The other use is to enjoy the fights, the scenery, and take photos. These images are then available in the Gallery, although they can not be saved in a way that is accessible out of the game.
