Zack is a character that has been in the DOA series since the first game. Muay Thai is his fighting style of choice. Zack is the only African American character in the DOA series, until Lisa's appearance in Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball (and Dead or Alive 4, which is her official start in the fighting series).

He plays little importance in the series' storyline as he only enters the tournaments for money and fame. However, he plays a huge role in the Dead or Alive Xtreme games as the owner of Zack Island, and he also plays a big role in Dead or Alive 4 when he saved Helena Douglas from the burning DOATEC building. In the canon story of Dead or Alive 4, Zack is the winner of the 4th tournament, though if Helena had claimed her win she would have received the title.

After hearing about the tournament, Zack enters to increase his popularity and make a name for himself. He apparently succeeds in that endeavor, to an extent. He also earns a high enough ranking in the tournament to gain a prize of significant monetary value.

Zack enters the next tournament to please his fans and gain more money; he once again succeeds in this task and then returns to his life of leisure.

After exhausting all his financial reserves, Zack enters the third tournament to earn more money so that he can enjoy a Las Vegas vacation. Though Zack receives the winner's prize, it is revealed he did not actually win the tournament; It was Ayane, who defeated Omega, but due to her departure after the tournament, Zack claims the title by default.

[edit] Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball

After winning the third tournament, Zack took his cash prize earnings from the tournament and went straight to Las Vegas to win big. With his increased earnings, he bought a private volcanic island to build a vacation resort and host volleyball tournaments misleadingly billed as the Fourth Dead or Alive tournament to lure in female participants.

Alas, the infamous Zack Island has sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Now all that remains is a mountain of debt, one hundred times the size of the original investment. Even the normally aloof Zack will have a hard time recovering from this blow... or so everyone thought. Zack's sights are already set on his next conquest: the DOATEC Tritower, three enormous pillars stretching up to the sky. Unfortunately, the tower catches on fire (as a result of the Mugen Tenshin attack) as Zack is climbing it. He manages to escape the flames, saving Helena's life in the process. He goes on with his girlfriend to find a large fortune, while fleeing an army of undead skeletons.

[edit] Dead or Alive Xtreme 2

With his girlfriend Niki, Zack raises Zack Island from the depths of the sea using funds he raised from an archeological dig, and a little alien help. After rebuilding his legacy with the help of space aliens, he again sent out fake invitations for the next Dead or Alive tournament to lure in more visitors. He once again had the ladies from DOA return again, just to have New Zack Island erupt. It is unknown if he survived, as when holding on to the helicopter, the rope broke causing him to fall into the flames. But at the end he then was saved by his alien friends.

[edit] Tina Armstrong

Since Dead or Alive, Zack had a huge crush on Tina Armstrong. However, after many failed attempts to make Tina fall in love with him, Zack basically forgot about Tina and instead fell in love with Niki.

[edit] Bass Armstrong

Since Zack loves Tina, Bass had been rivals with Zack in Dead or Alive 2 because Bass was a protective father and didn't want Tina to fall in love with a guy. The two fought in Dead or Alive 2.

After meeting in Vegas in Dead or Alive 3, Zack fell in love with Niki and the two started dating. The two did break up after Zack Island fell to the ground, but made up in Dead or Alive 4. Niki became Zack's lucky charm.

[edit] Bayman and Leon

Zack's connection with Bayman and Leon is clearly unknown, though he is good tag partners with the two. It could be possible that Zack defeated them both in the Dead or Alive tournaments. Dialogue exchanged with Leon in Story Mode in DoA2 suggests that Zack has unfinished business with the sandy mercenary.

As mentioned above; Zack saves Helena at the end of the fourth tournament. It is also clear that she knows Zack, and vice-versa, for she calls him by his first name when he appears. It could be that this relationship also has something to do with Zack's ties to Bayman and Leon, but this is pure speculation at this point.

[edit] Personality

Zack is perpetually happy, as well as money-hungry. He lives to entertain and never disappoints his fans. He is constantly smiling, and lets setbacks simply slide off of his back. When fighting, he likes flashy, showy moves, and keeps up a constant patter of talk and laughter. This can prove to be very distracting to his opponent.

Prior to the introduction of Niki in Dead or Alive 3, he also had a rather noticeable crush on fellow DOA competitor Tina Armstrong. Her father, Bass, was strongly opposed to this pairing, probably due mainly to his own overprotective stance in raising Tina into an ideal daughter coupled with Zack's overwhelmingly flashy and flamboyant nature.

[edit] Gameplay

Zack's main strength lies in his quick strikes and mix-up game. His lifter rising knee is an excellent combo starter and leads to many juggling possibilities, such as the belial rush and the demon rush combo strings. His single strikes (such as the long bazooka) are powerful, but leave him open for attack and throws. Over all, Zack's moveset concentrates on keeping the opponent speculating as to the next move, while his speed makes him a decent strike character as well.

Zack appeared in the DOA: Dead or Alive movie, basically playing as Tina's love interest. He is portrayed by Brain J. White.

  • Zack's appearance is based off of the famous basketball player Dennis Rodman. Rodman even provides his voice in Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball.
  • One of Zack's outfits in Dead or Alive 2 is similar to that of Shadow Man.
  • In Kokoro's Dead or Alive 4 cinematic, Zack can be seen towards the end sticking himself out of a carriage looking at Kokoro.
